Double action lock and flow taps. Quiet and smooth operation. How they work: Unfiltered water flows in from the aquarium via the return pipe and (optional use) surface skimmer. The easy access pre-filter which is situated in the pump head collects larger debris and particles before the water enters the canister. Now the water gets its temperature checked as it passes down around the heater, as it travels into the bottom of the canister. If the water is too cool the thermostat is activated, and the heater is switched on (as shown by the indicator light close to the top of the heater) and switched off again when the water is at its correct temperature. The water then flows up through the multi-stage filtration system, passing through the media trays containing mechanical and biological medias and finally through the filter pads before being pumped back into the aquarium.
