  Advanced Lace Knitting
Session: Thursday 2pm-5pm

An advanced lace class which covers knitted lace (motifs with lace knitting on RS and WS of fabric), chart reading, working with provisional cast-ons, executing multiple stitch patterns simultaneously (as in a Faroese shawl), incorporated edgings and knit-on edgings, shaped shawls of various types, shaping lace in garments, and discussing specific lace knitting questions from students.

Students will practice skills by knitting a doll-sized sampler triangle shawl with knit-on edge

Level: Intermediate.

Skills required: Students should have successfully completed at least two intermediate lace projects and worked with a variety of lace motifs so that they have an understanding of lace architecture, terminology, pattern reading, and how stitches are put together to make lace motifs and compositions.

Materials: Students will need ring markers, notepad, dental floss or fine cotton yarn (for lifelines), 50 yards of fingering yarn for practice work, 300 yards of fingering yarn for sampler, needles size 3.5 to 4.0 mm, crochet hook size E or F, scrap yarn for provisional caston. optional magnetic board, post-it notes, or highlighter tape may be helpful.

Homework: Please prepare a swatch that is 24 sts wide and 1 inch in length (garter or stockinette stitch) to be used for adding a knit-on edge.
